A tiny voice whispers, “Please, tell me why?
Why can’t I have a decent home,
And someone to love for my very own?
What did I do that was so bad
That I deserve to be this sad?
Please tell me what I need to do
To try and make it up to you.
I promise I’ll be good as gold,
And do whatever I am told.
I’ll be quiet, so completely mild.
I’ll sit real still, and not run wild.
I’ll even put away my toys
And be the very best of boys.
I can do it, just wait and see
If you would do one thing for me.
I only ask for you to send
Someone down to be my friend.
Someone who cares and wants to be
The someone watching over me.
Someone who soothes, and holds me tight
When monsters threaten in the night.
Someone who’ll smile and watch me play
And tuck me in at the end of day
With hugs and kisses and a story to read
I’m sure that’s all I’ll ever need.
With him my love I’ll gladly share
If you’ll just hear my heart felt prayer.
It’s a tiny thing I ask you for
And I swear I’ll never ask for more.
Forever grateful I would be
For someone to watch over me.
This simple prayer to you I send
