Someone To Watch Over Me

A tear filled gaze lifts to the sky
A tiny voice whispers, “Please, tell me why?
Why can’t I have a decent home,
And someone to love for my very own?

What did I do that was so bad
That I deserve to be this sad?
Please tell me what I need to do
To try and make it up to you.

I promise I’ll be good as gold,
And do whatever I am told.
I’ll be quiet, so completely mild.
I’ll sit real still, and not run wild.
